Family Reunion Tips

Family Reunion Tips from someone who has been to a dozen

(Yep, that’s TWELVE Family Reunions!)

  • Constantly forgetting your socks or your phone charger when you head to Family Reunion? Visit the myREDresources blog to Download an editable packing list for both men and women http://myredresources.com/blog/family-reunion-packing-lists-for-guys-and-gals/

  • Ever lose your phone at a convention?  Yeah, me too.  It’s a real pain.  This year I’m putting a label on the back wth my name and the contact information for a co worker who will be able to track me down in case someone finds it.
  • Ditto for your tote bag – name and phone number written on the inside helps it get returned to you.
  • Family Reunion can be a “firehose” of information.  One tip for organizing:  if you’re taking notes on your laptop or ipad, create a note called “Family Reunion Implementation Items”  If you’re using paper, I find that a yellow sheet helps me to locate that paper in my bag.  Every time you hear something you want to implement, make your note in the same place.  This will save you from having to dig thru your notes later to locate that great idea.
  • Use the time on the plane to organize your notes and to do list.  Take out your “Things to Implement” note and prioritize it.  The following week, add the number one priority item to your 411. Work thru the list according to your priorities.  Don’t try to implement everything at once.
  • Give yourself a day to recuperate by keeping your schedule light the day after you return.  Family Reunion takes a lot of energy!
  • Wash your hands frequently and use a good sanitizer.  Its flu season and you’ll be shaking hands and giving hugs.
  • Every time you collect a business card be sure to write a note on the back of the card for follow up.  ( you know when you get back with a stack you’re not gonna remember who is who!  Admit it!)  A sharpie works great on those cards that have a slick back.
  • Taking an iphone with you?  Snap photos of the front and back of the cards you collect (with your notes written on the back  of course!) Create a folder in your photo stream called “Family Reunion Referrals”   Every time you take a photo of a card, add it to your stream.  You can even share the stream with your administrative assistant so they can input the information while you’re away.   Use dropbox or google drive for android or other devices.  Youll never lose another card.

See you in Dallas!
